Bharti Singh On Living In Poverty: ‘My Mom Would Clean Toilets, Someone’s Stale Food Would Become Our Fresh Food’
Ace comedian Bharti Singh needs no introduction. With her sheer hard work and talent, today she is regarded as one of the industry's finest and most bankable comedians. But do you know Singh has seen many ups and down in her childhood days, her journey from rags to riches is quite inspiring. During her recent appearance on Neena Gupta’s podcast, the comedienne opened up about living in poverty and her struggle in her childhood days.

Bharti told Neena that her father died when she was just two years old and that her siblings had to leave their studies and work in a blanket factory to earn money. The comedian shared, “My focus has always been poverty. I was two years old when my father passed away. My brothers and sisters left their jobs. They used to work in a factory. They used to carry heavy blankets. They would stitch them night after night. Sometimes my mother would stitch dupattas. I still hate the smell of those blankets and the sound of the machine. I have seen enough poverty with my family and don’t want to see it anymore. If you do a background check, you will find that most comedians have a poor background.”

Bharti went on to state that she used to get depressed during festivals. At the time of Diwali, she would stand near other kids bursting crackers. She also recalled “When my mom would work at people’s homes, I used to sit near the door. She would clean toilets. While leaving, they would give her leftover food. Their stale food would become our fresh food.”  ALSO READ: Bharti Singh Reflects Back On Performing At A Comedy Show While Her Mother Was In The ICU: ‘Maine Socha Yeh Kaisi Life Hai’
